'I can't see you, you can't see me' - Symbols of my Psyche

$220.00

‘Symbols of my Psyche’ is an ongoing collection of ceramic sculptures representing objects that come to my mind’s eye in ways that feel out of nowhere, but intuitively feel like dream symbols to be interpreted. Creating sculptures based on these mental images make them tangible and psychologically continue to morph their metaphorical meanings. This practice can lead to more images and symbols, and possibly a greater understanding of life.

‘I can’t see you, you can’t see me’ - is based on a concept in infant development related to object permanence, where children before the age of five, believe that if they hide their eyes, no one can see them. This sculpture reflects on how even as we grow into adults developmentally, there can still be remnants of egocentrism from childhood, which can show up as cognitive dissonance and denial in our every day lives. Engaging with this sculpture puts the viewer behind the hands, in front of the hands or witnessing the tension of both sides. This ceramic sculpture is made of earthenware clay, underglaze and glaze. It is approximately 3.6cm (W) x 0.8cm (D) x 3.8cm (H).

This piece comes with a certificate of authenticity and is a one-of-one original sculpture.
