‘A time to retreat’ is Ashlee Bennett’s fourth limited edition sculpture release. This piece has an edition of 47, never to be repeated again. Each piece is made from earthenware clay, an indigo gloss glaze and lustred with mother of pearl. The dimensions are 5.6cm high x 4.5cm deep x 5.7cm wide. The edition number is marked on the base of the sculpture e.g. 1/47.
‘A time to retreat’ is a limited edition ceramic sculpture of 47 works. This piece is about honouring when we need to retreat – for safety, comfort and healing – and doing it unapologetically and without shame. Retreating isn’t about avoidance of life; it’s an intentional decision to feel the wisdom in radically choosing to ‘go within’ and nurture oneself. Wrapping or covering ourselves with a blanket doesn’t need to be about hiding yourself away – it can be the most compassionate act we give ourselves and our inner child. I made this piece as an anchor to honour and respect the time I’ve needed to take for myself over these past 6 years, in a way that I haven’t before. I needed to pull back from so much that gave me a sense of who I am, and from that place of intentional retreat, I could rediscover myself on another level.
